Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder were a Hollywood power couple, but those days are long gone. Ian Somerhalder has moved on from his relationship with Nina, and he is now engaged to his new lady, Nikki Reed, after just six months of dating.
Nina is not handling the engagement news all that well, according to a source close to the actress. A new Hollywood Life report has Nina “devastated” by the news that her ex-boyfriend is ready to marry Nikki Reed so soon after they started dating. A source close to the actress shared the inside scoop.
“Nina is devastated over the engagement news. She can’t believe this is all happening so fast. She is completely shocked. She heard the news from mutual friends and can only shake her head in disbelief. She knew Ian and Nikki were into each other but she never thought in a million years they would get married this quickly! It’s a tough pill to swallow.”
The fact that Ian did not tell Nina himself must have made the news even harder to handle for the actress. However, the source also revealed that Nina is ready for the spotlight on her former relationship with Ian Somerhalder to end. She is hoping that his engagement will stop fans from talking about the two of them getting back together.
Ian and Nina’s relationship did receive a lot of attention by fans of The Vampire Diaries. Fans saw the chemistry between the pair on the series, and they were saddened to learn that the pair broke up in real life.
Since the split, Nina has dated Derek Hough, and she is now reportedly dating her latest Vampire Diaries co-star, Chris Wood. In fact, Nina and Chris attended a Golden Globes after-party together on Sunday night, and Hollywood Life reported that Nina made it a point to avoid seeing Ian and Nikki at the party.
“It was really uncomfortably because Ian and Nikki were walking around like they were the prom king and queen. Nikki has been in the business forever and has so many friends in the film and music industries. She and Ian were glued at the hip and put on some serious PDA, kissing throughout the night.”
Nina has not made a public statement about Ian and Nikki’s engagement on social media or to the press, but she did made an interesting share on her Who Says account on Wednesday night. Nina shared an image that contained a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson on her Twitter. She had shared it on her Instagram before.
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
Is this share by Nina related to her discovery of Ian’s engagement to Nikki? He would be in her past. The quote could be a reference to her leaning on her own strength to get her through this difficult time.
The CW picked up The Vampire Diaries for Season 7, but it is not known at this time if Nina and Ian will both remain on the series next season. Steven R. McQueen is departing the series as a regular in an upcoming episode, and it was reported earlier this season that one member of the main trio had not yet signed on for The Vampire Diaries Season 7.
