‘Final Fantasy XIV’ Patch 2.5 Trailer Details ‘Before The Fall’ Expansion

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will receive Patch 2.5 “Before the Fall” next week. Square Enix released a trailer yesterday which details the expansion. The Final Fantasy update will be so massive that the servers will be down for 12 hours of maintenance.

PlayStation Universe writes that Patch 2.5 will be very important for Final Fantasy XIV. “Before the Fall” includes important updates before the release of the first major expansion to Final Fantasy XIV,“Heavensward.” Patch 2.5 releases on January 20 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. In late February, another patch will include recreational area Gold Saucer and mini-game Triple Triad. A third patch is also planned. “Heavensward” will be out this spring.

Three new dungeons will expand opportunities for players. Two are Hard Mode re-imaginings of Wanderer’s Palace (around minute 2:40 in the trailer) and Amdapor Keep. Keeper of the Lake (minute 1:15 in the trailer) will include a battle with Midgardsormr, the dragon.

The other updates refer to previous games Final Fantasy in the franchise. Final Fantasy III influences the World of Darkness, a raid that concludes the Crystal Tower story line. Final Fantasy VII and VIII make an appearance in Patch 2.51, which includes the new Manderville Gold Saucer area. Players can check out a variety of mini-games, including the card battling system Triple Triad. Triple Triad will allow players to battle other players as well as NPCs.
