Bruno Mars And Mark Ronson Shake Taylor Swift Off The Top Of The U.S. Charts

Taylor Swift is going to have to shake off some bad news this week, as there’s a new single atop the Billboard Hot 100 Chart courtesy of Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson. The new single “Uptown Funk” unseated Swift’s “Blank Space” to take over the top of the chart.

The collaboration by pop superstar Bruno Mars and British producer Ronson, a throwback to 1980s R&B style, soared to number one after occupying the number two position last week. The song was downloaded 382,000 times this week and streamed 10 millions times by U.S. music fans. This is the eighth week on the charts for the Mars and Ronson collaboration.

Bruno took to Twitter to celebrate the news of his new number one hit.

Bruno Mars actually is the featured artist on the song, not the lead artist. Mark Ronson, whose album Uptown Special comes out this Tuesday, scores his first Hot 100 number one hit as an artist with the hit song. Ronson has long had success in the music field, co-writing a hit for Christina Aguilera (“Hurt”) and co-producing hits with Amy Winehouse (“Rehab”). He also worked with Mars before on “Locked Out of Heaven.”

“Uptown Funk” by Mars and Ronson is also number one on the Hot Digital Songs chart with its 382,000 units downloaded this week. It has sold a total of 1,757,000 units during it’s eight weeks of release.

Bruno Mars has reached a milestone with his newest hit. “Uptown Funk” is the fourth song by Mars to reach number one on both the U.S. and U.K. charts (“Nothin’ On You,” “Just The Way You Are,” and “Grenade”). Michael Jackson and George Michael are the only other solo artists to have four songs reach number one on both charts, and the only solo artist to have more is Elvis Presley (6).

Mars is reportedly working on his third studio album. Bruno’s last full length album, titled Unorthodox Jukebox, was released in 2012, and his first album, titled Doo-Wops and Hooligans, was released in 2010. Both albums went double platinum in the United States. Mars just finished a 155 date worldwide tour, so it would seem that 2015 is the perfect time to put out new material.

Arguably the most in-demand male solo artist in the world today, Forbes magazine recently ranked Bruno Mars number one on their “30 Under 30” list and 13th on their “The World’s Most Powerful Celebrities” of 2014 list.

Regardless of how soon his next full length album comes out, it looks like Bruno Mars will soon have some new gold and platinum records to hang up in his recently purchased $6.5 million home in Studio City, California.
