‘Doctor Who’ Snags Fan Fave Of 2014, Plus Theories And Hopes For 2015

Doctor Who introduced a new Doctor with Series 8 last year, the 12th, and ended with an epic Christmas episode that has left fans eagerly counting down the days until the premiere of the next season. Peter Calpadi brought an entirely new and different spin to the beloved character, when he took over the role of the Doctor from Matt Smith.

According to Metro readers, Doctor Who was the best TV show of 2014, beating its competition of such shows as Sherlock, Game of Thrones, and The Walking Dead. Doctor Who nabbed 40 percent of the vote, with Sherlock close behind with 30 percent and Game of Thrones with 23 percent. It would seem many fans wholeheartedly approve of Capaldi as the 12th Doctor.

Cameron K. McEwan, blogger for Metro, agrees with the results of the online poll taken by readers.

The show has left Matt Smith behind and propelled itself into a new dimension with its new, and old, leading man, Peter Capaldi.”

While it takes time for most fans to get used to a new Doctor, this time it took longer for the companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman. Fans were left speculating up until the Christmas Special as to whether Coleman would return to Doctor Who for Series 9 in 2015.

Now that she’s been confirmed to stay on as the Doctor’s companion, fans are breathing a collective sigh of relief, and are beginning to formulate theories and hopes of what the next season of Doctor Who will bring. They’re studying recent episodes thoroughly, looking for any signs of what may be in store for the Doctor and his companion.

Some are even taking a close look at the Doctor Who calendar for 2015 for any clues they think may be waiting to be found, such as comic colorist Charlie Kirkoff.

“Anyone else get this calendar? Did you notice that every month has a Doctor with an iconic monster behind them but 12 has Clara behind him? Makes you think. #doctorwho #2015 #calendar #ClaraISaMonster”

What is known for sure is that Series 9’s first episode of Doctor Who is titled “The Magician’s Apprentice.” Fans have been dissecting what the title could mean for the show when it returns. The title was seen at the end of the Christmas episode and confirmed on the official Doctor Who Twitter account.

With filming of the next season of Doctor Who to begin early this year, fans are sure to be on the lookout for any sneak peeks and gossip from the set.
