Tim Howard Wants To Play In World Cup Of 2018

Tim Howard, U.S. soccer star and the goalkeeper who made really heroic saves during the 2014 World Cup, has certainly marked the year. The great performance of the U.S. soccer team has really increased the sport’s popularity across the nation during this summer.

Howard, 35, was a “Game Changer of 2014” with his most memorable performance in the U.S. versus Belgium game during the knockout round. Tim Howard made 16 incredible saves, which is the most saves in any single game during the World Cup, but still resulted in a 2-1 loss.

What question was going through Howard’s head while he played these tense matches?

According to ABC News, Tim said, “Nothing, everything’s the same. It slows down a bit. I felt in a good rhythm. I wish I could do it every week. I wish I could save more balls every week.”

America is still buzzing about Howard’s great game against Belgium. His astonishing performance and the man-of-the-match play, without false modesty, garnered more than 1.8 million mentions in tweets, and started an internet cult along with memes and a funny hashtag, #thingstimcouldsave.

When asked what his favorite meme was, Tim Howard said, “Probably the one where I was catching Scooby Doo would be the funniest one because I was a fan from way back when.”

Also, in his new memoir The Keeper, Howard discussed how surreal his stardom has been.

The famous goalie even earned a call from the White House, and was dubbed by fans as a “Secretary of Defense.”

“The president seemed – like all Americans – to be genuinely enthralled and immersed in the passion and drama of soccer and the World Cup,” Howard said.

President Obama told Tim Howard and the U.S. captain, Clint Dempsey, that they “did us proud,” and captured the hearts and imaginations of the whole nation.

Tim’s success also led to a marketing boom; everybody wants something related to Tim Howard, and many are already wearing a beard like the famous goalie.

Howard’s comment about the beard and fans said, “I thought it was cool. I hope they don’t get too attached to it because it’s eventually going to go.”

The goalkeeper said that he plans to play in 2018 World Cup in Russia. Howard will be almost 40-years-old, but he still hopes to be able to play.

“My muscles will be much more unforgiving,” Howard said. “This group in 2014 inspired me to want to go to 2018 because the group was just amazing. The ride we went on was incredible and I want to be a part of that again, you know? It was special.”

We wish you luck, Tim Howard, and hope to see you in 2018 World Cup!
