Dustin Diamond: ‘Screech’ Of ‘Saved By The Bell’ Faces 10 Years In Prison

Dustin Diamond, best known as “Screech” on Saved By The Bell, was arrested following a stabbing at a Port Washington, Wisconsin bar. The incident occurred early Friday, and Diamond was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct, and second-degree recklessly endangering safety. His fiancée, Amanda Schutz, was booked with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, then released.

Diamond, 37, reportedly claimed he acted in self defense, and the victim’s wounds were not life threatening and did not require medical treatment.

Prior to stopping at the Grand Ave. Saloon, reportedly Diamond and Schutz, 27, were bar hopping. They got into a fight with another woman and two men. Initially Schutz was bloodied, then Diamond allegedly stabbed one of the men with a knife which resulted in a half-inch puncture mark to the man’s right armpit.

When police arrived, Diamond and Schutz had left the scene but were later located in an SUV and the weapon was discovered.

Diamond gave conflicting stories ranging from the stabbing was accidental to not remembering if he stabbed the victim with a knife or a pen. The actor’s bail was set at $10,000, and a hearing is scheduled for Mon., Dec. 29. He also, reportedly, told police he stabbed the man while trying to protect Schutz.

More information was included in a criminal complaint from the Ozaukee County District attorney’s office and the Port Washington police.

“A bartender at Grand Avenue Saloon called police about 11:15 p.m. Thursday saying a patron had pulled a knife and then left the bar in a sport-utility vehicle. An officer pulled over the vehicle a short distance away. Amanda Schutz, 27, was driving and the 37-year-old Diamond was the passenger. The officer found a stiletto folding knife with a 3.75-inch blade inside with a moist substance on it.”

Diamond told the officer that he normally carries the knife for protection.

The victim told the police that although he had pushed Diamond during the altercation and Diamond swung at him, the victim did not realize he had been cut.

TMZ reports the owner of the bar stated the incident was over pictures of Diamond being taken by patrons at the bar.

The Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel reports this is Diamond’s first criminal case, but the former teen star has been involved in many cases involving debts.

In the past, Diamond has been sued for not paying taxes and mortgage payments.

In 2006, to save his home from repossession, Diamond sold t-shirts and produced a fake sex tape, Screeched: Saved By The Smell, using a body double.
