Val Kilmer’s weight loss has stirred up controversy on the Internet. Mail Online shared new photos of Kilmer on Monday, and the actor is looking very thin. Val has been working to lose weight in recent months, and he shared photos of his progress with his followers on Twitter.

Back in August, Kilmer shared a photo of himself shirtless at his home in Malibu. It was clear from that photo that Val Kilmer had lost a lot of weight, and the new paparazzi photos from Monday revealed that the weight loss continued.

Softpedia reports that the amount of weight Kilmer has lost in recent months is causing concern. Bloggers and other media outlets are calling the actor “gaunt.”

However, the actor is receiving some positive support from his fans on Twitter. They approve of Kilmer’s weight loss , and they want him to get back in the spotlight. During the 1980s, Kilmer was as popular as Tom Cruise. The pair starred together in Top Gun in 1986. Kilmer will turn 55 on December 31.

Now that we’ve gotten Michael Keaton back on track, can we move on to Val Kilmer everyone? He’s lost the weight. Let’s do this thing.

Kilmer is still making films, but his popularity has declined in recent years. In 2010, the actor packed on the pounds, but he realized that he needed to lose that weight in 2012. It did take Val some time; TMZ shared how Kilmer shed those pounds after he posted his shirtless selfie back in August.

“We’re told ‘Iceman’ looked in the mirror and realized he had let himself go… and decided to change everything. There was no personal chef or magic diet pill… just healthy eating and exercise, especially long walks on the beach by his home in Malibu.”

Kilmer has been busy in recent months. He has one new film set for release in April; Val will star as iconic author Mark Twain in Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn . The actor is also set to star in a new film by Terrence Malick. The yet to be titled film will also feature Michael Fassbender and Rooney Mara. The film is set in the Austin music scene.

Val did take a moment on Monday to go to his Twitter account and mourn the death of Joe Cocker , according to the Inquisitr . Kilmer was one of the many to remember the singer’s voice on Twitter after his passing.

Ah. What a mighty mighty original voice is gone. Joe Cocker one of the all time soul of Rock and Roller Kings will be missed forever.

What do you think of Val Kilmer’s weight loss? Has he lost too much weight in his quest to slim back down?

UPDATE: Kilmer has responded to the debate his weight loss has caused following the release of the new photos out on Monday. He went to his Facebook and shared a message with his fans on Tuesday afternoon.

I have been urged by friends to post something about my perfect health and weight loss. Can’t win in this crazy town. Too heavy for too many years and now gossip says, too thin! But I’m preparing as most of you know, for my dream role, Mark Twain in a film I’ve written and will direct about his obsession with Mary Baker Eddy. Mark Twain was a thin man, and finally after the usual amount of effort, I’m thin again too. Perfect health. Having a ball with my kids over the holidays, making art while doing rewrites, meeting actors and preparing to direct my film, and of course shopping. Have to go back to wearing a hood again while out in the hood. Can’t win in this crazy town but as Chris Penn used to say with such a Devils grin, “If you got the game then you don’t need the fame.” See you at the Clippers game on Christmas!
