Lauren Scruggs Loses Eye Weeks After Plane Propeller Accident


DALLAS, TEXAS – Model and fashion blogger Lauren Scruggs had her left eye removed on Thrusday, several weeks after she lost her hand duirng a plane propeller accident.

Doctors on Wednesday performed the delicate surgery at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital. Scruggs now had a prosthesis implanted where her eye use to be.

Following the surgery her family members posted the following message on her CaringBridge.com site:

“Over the last week, we have been praying for a miracle for the healing of Lo’s left eye,” and “We are thankful for all of the strong and powerful prayers for this and the surgery today.”

The website statement continued:

“Along with the pain she was already experiencing with her arm and shoulder injuries, the removal of the left (eye) is also very painful,” an “We are asking again for prayers to relieve this pain, and also, as we have posted previously, pray for Lo to regain her appetite. This is crucial for her body to heal quickly.”

The surgery comes just two days after Scruggs was able to walk unassisted and eat solid foods.

After walking into the spinning propeller of a single engine plane on Dec. 3 Scruggs suffered head, brain, shoulder and arm injuries.

Speaking about the success of the surgery her father Jeff Scruggs told reporters:

“She’s smiling… She’s able to raise both eyebrows,” and “That doesn’t sound like a big deal, but they were worried about the nerve, on one side, and she’s able to do that, so we’re so grateful and thankful for all of that.”
