Joaquin Phoenix Makes Up Engagement Story Because His Life is ‘Boring’

Joaquin Phoenix may have had the shortest fake engagement in Hollywood history. On December 8, he revealed on David Letterman’s Late Show that he was engaged to a yoga instructor. These days, the actor keeps his life private, so it was interesting to learn that the Walk the Line star was gearing up to get married. It turns out, though, that it was nothing more than a prank by Phoenix, and all because he thinks his life is “boring.”

On Letterman, Phoenix talked about meeting the fictitious yoga instructor for the first time. He revealed a humorous story before adding, “I think she’s the one. I proposed to her and she said yes. If everything works out…so far, so good.”

On December 9, however, Joaquin Phoenix was on Good Morning America where he revealed that the entire engagement story was not true. He claimed that he wanted to “spice up his story” a little bit, and, in his defense, it did work! After Phoenix had announced his engagement, the internet went crazy reporting that the actor was soon to get married. There is no doubt that people love reading about celebrity engagements and marriages, but do they love hearing that they were lied to?

According to Us Weekly, while on Good Morning America, Phoenix spoke more in depth about his engagement story, and why he decided to dupe everyone.

“I think my life’s so boring, and it seemed like something exciting to talk about, and I wanted the audience to like me. They really like people getting married. I can get engaged again, if you like.”

Joaquin Phoenix has played some convincing movie roles in the past, and, as reported by the Inquisitr, he may have had the opportunity to play Iron Man. However, he was able to convince a lot of people that he was ready to walk down the aisle, too!

Phoenix is known for having what can only be called as interesting sense of humor, and this latest story pretty much confirms that. According to Phoenix himself, though, he didn’t mean for the engagement story to turn out as a prank and claims that David Letterman knew the actor was joking.

“I did not play a prank on him — he knew that I was joking around. Did I say that? I was in bed too, I was getting ready for this show. I have no idea what I said.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joaquin spoke out on Live! With Kelly and Michael, and he revealed that he doesn’t even do yoga! He then joked that he is engaged to Reese Witherspoon. Of course, Joaquin Phoenix is not engaged to Witherspoon or anyone for that matter.
