Nick Cannon On Mariah Carey Split: ‘Always Focus On Family’

While it goes without saying that celebrity break-ups are never easy, it is refreshing to see at least one Hollywood couple splitting up amicably, without the usual dose of drama and nastiness which often prevails under such circumstances.

In speaking to Good Morning America about his separation from Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon spoke candidly, confirming that for him, it will always be about family, no matter what.

When asked by GMA host Lara Spencer about his situation with Mariah, “You and I were just talking, Mariah and you are separated, Christmas is about family first and foremost?” to which Nick replied, “Always focus on family. We’ll forever be family. At the same time, we’re there for our children, making them the No. 1 priority and understanding they’re loved and can have an amazing holiday.”

Nick Cannon was asked the question about his personal life while on GMA promoting his new Christmas book, Roc and Roe’s 12 Days of Christmas, which is about Carey and Cannon’s twins Moroccan and Monroe.

The divorce rumors regarding the couple started back in September, with a source telling E! News, “Mariah has started the divorce process. She’s getting all her ducks in a row.”

Although, at the same time, Nick took to Twitter to deny the rumors, “I love @MariahCarey and that will never change. So to see false reports in the media stating otherwise is absurd. While I would like to remain silent I can no longer allow this to happen.”

Nevertheless, it now seems that those “false reports” were in fact true, despite the fact that Cannon will be spending Christmas with Mariah and the kids anyway, “It’s always a house full of people and pets and dogs. Christmas Eve we like to have sleigh rides and reindeer. It’s a lot of fun. So when you read the book, everything seems over the top, but it really happens,” he shared.

It’s so nice to see that despite their marriage having run its course, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are able to do the right thing by their kids and not let the bitterness of their personal issues affect them. No doubt there’s plenty of “water under the bridge,” but Nick and Mariah set a great example for others of how splitting up should be done.
