UFC News: CM Punk’s Age Too Old For MMA? Urijah Faber Comments On Debate

CM Punk’s age might seem an issue now that he’s signed up for the UFC. While the wrestler was popular in the WWE, the fact is that he may not be young enough to take the beatings which might come out of fighting in the MMA. But Urijah Faber believes that is not a reason for Phil Brooks to punk out.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, UFC and Bellator fighter Phil Baroni claims CM Punk will get his “whiney” neck broken once he starts MMA fighting.

Although Dana White has put on a poker face, the details about CM Punk’s UFC contract have just started to trickle out, and already Phil Brooks has a line forming from those who wish to fight him in the octagon. Even former green Power Ranger Jason David Frank wants to take a crack at CM Punk.

“I’m excited,” said CM Punk. “I finally feel there is something I can put 100 percent of myself into and that I’ll get 100 percent back. If I slack off, if I sit on the couch and eat Doritos and give 50 percent and only train three days a week, that will obviously show. That’s not my plan. The plan is to go full tilt. I’ll kick my own ass so I don’t get my ass kicked when I step into the Octagon. It was a very easy decision, and I’m the kind of person who likes goals and challenges. I’m very excited to climb the mountain, so to speak.”

Unfortunately, CM Punk’s age has already reached 36, which is quite a bit older than most guys who start their MMA careers. But bantamweight UFC fighter Urijah Faber believes CM Punk should not be discouraged from going into MMA.

“A lot of this fight game, and the fighters up here understand this, is so much mental. If this guy believes he can get in here and fight, and he’s willing to put in some work, who’s to tell him he’s not the baddest man on the planet?” said Faber. “I’ve had a lot of younger fighters who are on my team go out and gotten losses and have felt embarrassed. This is the most exposed you’ll ever be in any sport. If you’re willing to fight a one-on-one fight in front of millions of people, props to the guy for wanting to put his best foot forward.”

For four years prior to leaving the WWE, CM Punk was training in MMA with Brazilian jiu-jitsu master Rener Gracie. They’ve even released videos showing CM Punk fighting MMA style. So while he may be older than some potential contenders, Punk may have the edge on experience. He also happens to be a year younger than Brock Lesnar, and yet hardly anyone is talking about the Beast being too old for a UFC return.
