Marilyn Monroe Bra Auction: Thousands Of Dollars Paid For Lacy White Bra Worn By Screen Siren [Video]

Marilyn Monroe’s bra fetched thousands at auction on Friday, December 6, 2014. The lacy white brassiere once owned by the sexy bombshell sold for $20,000, according to a report from People.

A heart-wrenching letter from Joe DiMaggio to Marilyn after she said she was divorcing him went for $78,125. DiMaggio learned of his wife’s intentions only after she announced during a public press conference that she had already begun divorce proceedings. He watched the press conference on television as it happened, prompting him to pen a letter by hand to express his feelings.

“Dear Baby — Don’t know what you’re thoughts are about me, but I can tell you I love you seriously, way deep in my heart, irregardless of anything.”

Also up for auction from Julien’s Auctions’ Property from the Life and Career of Marilyn Monroe were rare nude photographs taken shortly before her death, rhinestone studded hairpins, a single hair roller, various articles of jewelry, and a series of love letters written to Monroe by her then fiancé, Arthur Miller, one of which sold for a whopping $43,750. In all, there were 200 items associated with the actress, including the ultra-valuable brassiere.

Despite having died from a barbiturate overdose on August 5, 1962, Marilyn Monroe still has an estimated net worth of $27 million, according to the Richest.

Lee Strasberg, Marilyn Monroe’s acting coach and mentor, came into possession of the collection after the actress and model passed away. Strasberg eventually turned the impressive collection over to a friend. Now it seems that Monroe’s belongings will be scattered to the four corners of the Earth as their highest bidders take them to their new homes.

Julien’s Auctions shared all the intimate details about the bra that fetched thousands at auction.

“A Marilyn Monroe nude-colored underwire brassiere with mesh-lined cups. Label reads ‘Hollywood/ Vassarette/ V-Ette/ Debutante/ Style 1225/Size 36C/ Price $5.95.’ The brassiere came from Monroe’s professional wardrobe. Prior to being auctioned in 2005, the brassiere was intended to be auctioned at Christie’s 1999 Monroe Estate auction.”

Marilyn Monroe’s bra wasn’t the only auction item to fetch thousands of dollars when it was sold by Julien’s Auctions as part of their Hollywood Legends 2014 Auction. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a $7,500 slice of fruitcake was also sold at auction on Friday. The sweet treat was given to guests at the royal wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Kate Middleton on April 29, 2011. Online marketplace Listia founder Gee Chuang walked away with the expensive boxed fruitcake.

What do you think? Would you rather pay $7,500 for a slice of fruitcake served to Submariners at the royal wedding of Will and Kate, or thousands more for Marilyn Monroe’s bra at auction? Comments are welcome.
