‘The Legend of Zelda’ Gameplay Demo Shown Off For Nintendo Wii U

Many have been waiting for the first footage from The Legend of Zelda that will be coming to the Nintendo Wii U in 2015, and finally their wishes have been granted.

Footage of The Legend of Zelda Wii U was showcased at The Game Awards 2014, and it showed Nintendo’s Shigeru Mityamoto and Eiji Aonuma, the director of the franchise, sitting together playing the game. As IGN pointed out, the game is yet untitled, but no one seems to mind.

All they know is that more Zelda is coming soon, and now there is visible, concrete proof.

By watching the video, you can see that the demo starts with Link on a hill at sunset, and running around to explore what is obviously the well-known land of Hyrule.

An extensively vast and expanded Hyrule, at that.

The geniuses behind The Legend of Zelda speak on the game and how the new world was built with high vantage points specifically in mind. They let it be known that the world of Hyrule is so expansive that anything you see on the horizon is where players will be able to go.

VG247 also revealed that Link’s ever trustworthy companion, the horse named Epona, will be back to help Link get around and avoid dangers. This will also allow Link to Master Sword-fight and shoot arrows at enemies.

Some shots in the footage of The Legend of Zelda Wii U showed players the new map system that will be used in the game. This map gives a great look at just how incredibly huge the land of Hyrule truly will be.

The touch screen of the Wii U controller will allow players to be able to pinpoint specific locations and see where they’ve traveled or could go. During the demo, Aonuma even comments on how it could take five minutes to travel where they wanted to go, from one part of the map to another.

From there, Link was focused on again as he jumped off a gigantic cliff and used the Sailcloth that was seen in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Obviously, continuity has always been huge for this duo and Nintendo in the franchise.

As the demo came to a close, there was Link fighting on horseback, and it led to our hero jumping off and firing an arrow in mid-air in slow motion.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U has still not given players much as of yet, but it’s given more than we could already dream of before its release. Now, the game simply needs to continue on schedule and actually come out in 2015 as everyone hopes it will.
