Rapper Beanie Sigel Hospitalized But Awake After Shooting

Beanie Sigel, the well-known rapper, is in serious condition following a shooting outside of his South Jersey home on December 5.

Beanie Sigel, whose birth name is Dwight E.Grant, suffered a gun shot to the abdomen outside of his home on Spruce Avenue in Pleasantville, New Jersey. At around 9:30 a.m., residents of the quiet street heard gun shots and started to phone the authorities.

Police Chief Jose Ruiz stated that the bullet exited through Sigel’s back, reports Philly.

“Police received multiple 911 calls of gunfire in the 800 block of Spruce Avenue before 10 a.m. Officers found Sigel, 40, in a house there. A bullet had hit him in the abdomen and exited through his back, Ruiz said.”

CBS Philly reports that another man, Umar Salahuddin, was also injured, though not seriously. Salahuddin, who was recently release from prison, is Sigel’s brother-in-law and resides at the same house on Spruce Avenue. It is believed there was an altercation between the two.

Salahuddin refused medical treatment and was uncooperative with officials.

CBS Philly states that there is a possible third person involved.

“Following the shooting, police took a man into custody for questioning after a car chase led them to believe the male driver may be connected to the shooting. The man’s name has not been released as authorities try to determine whether he was involved.”

Investigators have seized two cars as of Friday evening, one of which had bullet holes. There have been no arrests.

After the shooting, Beanie Sigel was rushed to Alanticare Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. As of Friday evening, he was awake, but still in serious condition.

A lawyer for Sigel states that he was not the intended target.

This is not the first time Beanie has been shot, having suffered multiple gun shot wounds after a robbery in Philadelphia.

Sigel made his debut in 2000 with the album The Truth. He was a pupil of Jay-Z, working with Roc-A-Record. Sigel’s latest album, This Time, was released in 2012.

In August, he was release from prison after serving two years for tax evasion. Beanie lived in a halfway house in Philadelphia until September, when he was assigned to home confinement. According to Federal Bureau of Prisons, Sigel’s confinement was to end on Saturday.

Sigel has a lengthy criminal history, including conspiracy, federal weapons charges, and drug charges.

Friday’s shooting remains under investigation as police wait to speak with the injured Beanie Sigel.
