Angelina Jolie Comforts Sobbing Fan With Selfie, Star Takes Time Outside Taping ‘Daily Show’

Angelina Jolie offered comfort to a fan Thursday, when the young woman appeared to suffer some sort of anxiety-related flare-up as she waited for the mega-star outside a taping of The Daily Show in New York City.

The fan, who goes by the name Techna, was pulled from a crowd of onlookers gathered to catch a glimpse of Angelina Jolie as she entered the Comedy Central studio on West 54th St. in Manhattan. Fans typically gather around the doors to the studio when Daily Show host Jon Stewart has a interview with a celebrity guest scheduled on a given day.

But Techna for some reason suffered a panic attack or other form of anxiety, and suddenly broke into sobs. She was then pulled out of the excited throng.

The incident occurred as Angelina patiently signed autographs for fans gathered there, as she was on her way out after finishing her interview with Stewart — an interview in which she promoted her most recent film as a director, Unbroken.

Suddenly, the young fan started to scream that she was having a “panic attack.” Apparently, the swarming crowd of star-struck fans became so thick that Techna felt smothered and went into panic mode.

Though security personnel could not stop her as she broke through the metal barriers separating the star from her fans, Jolie immediately displayed compassion for the young woman.

As the fan crouched against a wall, tears streaming down her face, Angelina — a 39-year-old mom herself — asked the young woman, “Are you all right,” then wiped the tears from the fan’s eyes.

After a few more words of comfort, Jolie clad elegantly in a white button-down coat and black heels, used the fan’s smartphone to snap two selfies, as the crowd sighed, awed as the star’s real-life display of the famed compassion that has led her to become an international humanitarian activist and ambassador for the United Nations High Command for Refugees.

Inside the studio, Jolie discussed her new film with Stewart, as the comic made a show of mooning over her beauty.

Stewart appeared in a film with Angelina Jolie, Playing By Heart, in 1998, and he recalled meeting her on set — and wondered what might have been had the two hit it off at that time.

“If you’d ended up with me instead of Brad Pitt, our portmanteau, Stewart and Jolie, would have been ‘Stolie,'” he quipped. “We could have been a vodka brand.”

But the episode outside the studio that saw Angelina Jolie comfort a crying fan was how the day will more likely be remembered.
