Arby’s ‘We Have Pepsi’ Commercial May Be Funniest Ad Of The Year


Arby’s wants you to know that it has Pepsi. In case, somehow, you forgot that their restaurants have an exclusive contract with the beverage company.

And their reminder could be one of the funniest ads you see this year.

There is nothing else in the video but a glass of soda featuring the Pepsi logo. There’s a slight delay in the voice over before the reason for this is explained.

Once the narration begins, the viewer is quickly informed that what they’re seeing isn’t a Pepsi advertisement at all. Instead, the audience is informed that its an Arby’s ad on behalf of “good friend,” Pepsi.

“Arby’s has an agreement to feature their good friend Pepsi in two commercials a year.”

“Well, Arby’s messed up and forgot about the second commercial!”

“So here it is… Pepsi!”

“Cool, refreshing, and goes great with Arby’s sandwiches and other Arby’s foods.”

The commercial fades to white and in place of Arby’s all too familiar “We Have The Meats” slogan is “We Have Pepsi.”

(At least, they have Pepsi at participating restaurants for a limited time.)

The ad is so hilariously blunt that, of course, Pepsi seemingly had no choice but to offer a response.

So it seems that the two brands made up after Arby’s alleged faux pas and are now friends again.

The ad is perhaps the most straightforward of its kind.

It’s become increasingly common for companies to feature one another in ads. However, their working relationship is heavily implied rather than outright discussed. Or, it could be they genuinely have nothing in common outside of the feature.

As for Arby’s, the restaurant continues to display its ability to create genuinely viral moments.

At the beginning of this year, the person in charge of Arby’s Twitter couldn’t help but notice that artist Pharrell Williams was wearing a very familiar hat.

Making the observation even more comedic was the response given by Williams.

That epic moment was followed by the decision by Arby’s to buy the iconic hat for $44,100. The proceeds went to From One Hand To Another, an organization dedicated to helping children learn through technology.

It’s very rare that a company can both begin and end the year with one of the most discussed viral moments on the Internet but Arby’s seems to have mastered the art of using social media to generate buzz.

There’s a debate waging as to whether or not Arby’s really forgot about Pepsi.

Some say that this commercial, though funny, was carefully planned. Others prefer to think that this is real and that Arby’s is sincere in its apology to Pepsi.
