Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher will play lovers in the Annie remake, but a half-fish Rihanna just might come between them.
This odd scenario probably left you scratching your head — after all, it doesn’t exactly fit in a film about an orphan girl charming her way into the heart of a billionaire businessman. However, the New York Daily News explains that the Annie scenes featuring Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, and Rihanna will be featured in a movie-within-the-movie.
Wealthy politician Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) and Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) will try to bond by heading to the theater to watch a movie together, and they’ll choose a film titled Moonquake Lake. There’s a quick glimpse of the movie’s poster featuring Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher in the Annie trailer below, and it looks like Annie and Will are actually at the movie’s premiere.
The Daily News’ description of Moonquake Lake doesn’t offer many clues as to what it’s about.
“In the movie’s movie, Kunis and Kutcher play lovers, who are confronted by Rihanna, who plays a villain covered in blue makeup.”
Stereogum reports that the Annie soundtrack features a song titled “Moonquake Lake.” Sia and Beck collaborated on the upbeat pop tune, which you can check out below.
The “Moonquake Lake” lyrics are odd, but they offer some hints about the plot of the movie-within-a-movie starring Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.
“She’s a fish and he’s a boy” are the first words of the song, and they seem to suggest that Rihanna’s character is some sort of fish creature. The lyrics also hint that her blue gilled villain came from space, so she might resemble an Avatar alien.
“She came from the Moon ready to fight / With scales and a tail and a fishy bite / Ready to destroy all of humankind / Fierce and fighting with a brook trout mind.”
The song goes on to talk about a human boy going on a date with the fish girl, so Mila Kunis might lose her man to Rihanna’s creature from the deep.
Other Annie cameos include Saturday Night Live star Bobby Moynihan as a rude bar patron and Michael J. Fox as himself. The Back to the Future star will cause problems for Will Stacks by endorsing his rival in the New York City mayoral race.
In addition to Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhané Wallis, the main Annie cast includes Cameron Diaz as Annie’s cruel foster mom and Rose Byrne as Stacks’ assistant.
Unfortunately, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s daughter, Wyatt, is too young to enjoy watching her parents in the Annie remake. However, you and your kids can check out the cute couple’s crazy cameo when Annie hits theaters on December 19.
