Melissa McCarthy Uses High Protein Low-Carb Diet For 50-Pound Weight Loss [Video]

For years, Melissa McCarthy declined to discuss any weight loss worries or diet dilemmas. But just as she's launching her new designer dress line, McCarthy has lost an estimated 45 to 50 pounds with a high protein low-carb diet, revealed Hollywood Take.

"She's been making small changes and seeing big results," said a source. "It's given her a real confidence boost."

Why decide to diet now? The insider said that Melissa was concerned about her health and being a good role model for her children. Her new high protein diet and weight loss comes less than a year after she claimed she did not want to worry about dieting.

"I could eat healthier, I could drink less," said McCarthy in June. "I should be...mworking out more, but I'm just always saying, 'Ah, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow.'"

Although she is now dieting, she isn't stressing about it, said the source.

"Melissa knows that fans love her big and beautiful, and she's not obsessed with dieting, She's looking for a happy medium. Melissa realized she wasn't being as healthy as she could be. She wants to set a good example for her kids and she wants to be around to become a grandmother too."
To achieve that goal, she's happily flaunting her weight loss, shown below.
McCarthy admitted that she's been a yo-yo dieter in the past, fitting into various dress sizes depending on her weight. But she told Women's Wear Daily that she felt frustrated when she attempted to find attractive attire in larger sizes. That frustration motivated her to launch her own fashion line.

"I have experience dressing me as a 6, a 12 and more. And when you go above a size 12, you don't lose your love of fashion," asserted Melissa.

To showcase her sense of fashion, McCarthy is working with Gerard Guez's Sunrise Brands. The fashion line, to be named, will roll out casual sportswear as well as beauty products and accessories.

"I always said, 'Why can't I find great stuff?' And Sunrise was up for the challenge," said the actress.

Now that Melissa has slimmed down, will she narrow the sizes of her fashion line as she whittles her waistline? Not likely, declared McCarthy.

"I'm doing all sizes. It's a strange thing to stop at a certain size. Women don't, so why should clothes?"
And if McCarthy is seeking celebrities to model the smaller sizes in her new fashion line, she might want to reach out to Snooki. As the Inquisitr revealed, the reality TV star also chose a high protein, low-carb diet for weight loss success.

"I am eating lots of greens, a lot of grilled chicken, salad and some fruits," said Snooki.
