Loretta Lynn Signs A Multi-Album Deal With Legacy Recordings

Loretta Lynn has signed a multi-album deal with Legacy Recordings — a division of Sony Music. Although Legacy generally focuses on “greatest hits” albums, Loretta’s future albums will feature plenty of new material.

As reported by Rolling Stone, Loretta Lynn has been composing and recording new music for the last seven years. In addition to several new songs, the albums will feature traditional folk and gospel music. Although the country legend added her own special touch, the songs were recorded to sound “like they might’ve sounded growing up in the 1930s and 40s in Butcher Holler.”

Loretta Webb was born in the small Kentucky town in 1932. The daughter of a coal miner, she was raised in the midst of the Great Depression. As stated in the autobiographical song “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” life was not easy for the family of 10.

“Daddy loved and raised eight kids on a miner’s pay… Mommy scrubbed our clothes on a washboard every day… Well, I seen her fingers bleed, to complain there was no need… In the summertime we didn’t have shoes to wear… But in the wintertime we’d all get a brand new pair… Daddy always managed to get the money somewhere.”

At the age of 14, Loretta left home and married Oliver Lynn. Although she always enjoyed singing, Loretta did not begin “singing seriously” until 1961. She got her big break following a talent show, which was hosted by Buck Owens.

Norm Burley was so taken with Loretta’s performance that he founded a record company to record her first single “I’m A Honkey Tonk Girl.” Although her career got a slow start, Loretta’s unique voice and style soon caught on.

Loretta Lynn’s career has spanned more than five decades. However, she has not released an album in more than 10 years.

The country legend’s highly anticipated album was produced by her daughter Patsy Lynn Russell and John Carter Cash. Although the date was not specified, a 2015 release is planned.

In October 2013, Loretta Lynn was forced to cancel two shows due to exhaustion. However, she has reportedly recorded more than 90 songs since 2007. A large portion of the new music will be included on the planned albums.

Although Loretta’s style has changed several times in the last 53 years, she is proud to return to her roots. The country legend developed a love for music as a child — listening to her mother sing traditional folk and gospel music. Although the songs were reworked, their essence will shine through on Loretta Lynn’s new albums.
