Tim Tebow: NFL Teams Like The NY Jets Could Take A Second Look At His Quarterback Stats?

Tim Tebow’s NFL career as a quarterback is seemingly on ice, but some NFL teams like the New York Jets may want to reconsider ditching the former quarterback.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, Tim Tebow has NFL teams “interested” in his return to the field, but Joe Theismann insists Tim “can’t throw the football.” Regardless of his debated ability, many fantasy football fans have been adding Tebow to their lineup, and he is extremely popular to this day. But no one can deny his future in the sports broadcasting field since he’s already received multiple offers for more opportunities.

Even though Tim Tebow’s stats show him to be an average NFL quarterback, he was supposedly a fantastic leader with the Broncos. Tebow was even named Forbes’ most influential athlete for the year. In 2012, Tim was ranked number 95 by his peers in the NFL Top 100. Near the end of the 2011-2012 season, Tebow was ranked number five out of the NFL’s 32 starting quarterbacks. So while Tebow is unlikely to be one of the top 10 NFL quarterbacks right now, there’s a good chance he would not be placed at the back of the pack.

For example, the New York Jets’ Geno Smith has been struggling during the 2014 NFL season, and head coach Rex Ryan recently announced he would be replaced by Michael Vick as the starter. So could signing Tim Tebow again actually make sense based upon the stats? After all, signing Smith cost the Jets a second round pick, while Tebow is a free agent and won’t cost them in anything in the NFL draft. Tebow is also very likely to be agreeable to any salary so he would also be inexpensive in comparison to some NFL stars.

But why would Tim Tebow’s stats make a good case for such a deal? Geno Smith has thrown 19 touchdowns and 31 interceptions, and his career passer rating stands at 66.2. Smith also happens to have the largest number of interceptions. On the other hand, Tim Tebow has a career passer rating of 75.3. Tebow threw 17 touchdowns, ran for 12 rushing touchdowns and threw nine interceptions during his time as a starter.

But hiring Tim Tebow as an NFL quarterback doesn’t necessarily need to be focused on a starter. If anything, Tebow’s running game is one thing many NFL quarterbacks cannot duplicate. How many times do you see a quarterback bowl over a defensive lineman? He’s built like a linebacker, standing 6 foot 3 inches and weighing 240 pounds, and yet, he can run the 40-yard dash in 4.7. Having Tebow as a quarterback does require modifying the offensive strategies based upon his skills, but the coaches could always put him in as a wildcard in order to throw the defense for a loop… will he rush or will he throw?
