Witches of East End had captured the hearts of the coveted 18-49 demographic with over 3 million viewers. Although they have sighted a drop in ratings during the season finale, the fact that the second season ended with so many unresolved issues makes many people believe that they had intended to pursue a third season for Witches of East End. Even more curious, the cancellation of Witches of East End leaves Lifetime with only one original, non reality type program in its line up, although others are said to in the works. While some fans have speculated that the recent bad publicity for witches and the current violence against accused witches may have played some role in the network’s decision, most are baffled as to why Witches of East End was canceled.

Fans immediately launched a petition to try and save the show, getting over 7,000 signatures in just the first few hours.

Witches of East End was developed by Maggie Friedman and was based on a book series by writer Melissa De La Cruz, which was first published by Hyperion Books in 2011. Witches of East End takes place in the same universe as Cruz’s young adult Blue Bloods series and includes two other novels, Serpent’s Kiss (2012) and Winds of Salem (2013). The series follows a family of born witches, the Beauchamps, who live in the East End sine they were cast out of Asgard and face various challenges from deadly enemies to complicated love triangles.

Although the life of Witches of East End seems to have come to an end with the Lifetime network, fans are hoping that another network will pick up the beloved series and breath new life into the Witches of East End and bring some answers that the shows cliffhangers had left unanswered. One thing is certain, that for many fans, the cancellation of Witches of East End means they no longer have any reason to consider Lifetime as part of their regular viewing and they are making it known to the powers at be on Facebook and other social media.
