Is Jessica Chastain Lined Up For ‘Captain Marvel’? Not So Fast

Is Jessica Chastain lined up for a Marvel film? With every announced slate from Kevin Feige comes a new set of theories regarding Marvel’s next crop of leading men. In this case there was a ton of talk regarding one leading woman, that of Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel.

It all started when Chastain gave an interview to MTV, which lead to the outlet taking her quotes out of context. The Interstellar actress admitted that Marvel was interested in her, but didn’t specify the timeline or the film, for obvious reasons.

“We’ve talked about aligning our forces in the future. And here’s the thing with me… If you’re going to be in a superhero movie, you only get one chance. You’re that character forever. So why do a superhero movie and play the boring civilian?”

With Captain Marvel recently announced in the phase 3 line up, it’s not a big stretch to imagine that Chastain was referring to suiting up.

She continued, when pressed for more information about which Marvel film. “There was one thing. I don’t want to say too much – but there was one thing, there was a possibility in the future of the character becoming… And I was like, ‘I understand that, but I want to do it now.”

Screen Rant speculated since she mentioned she wanted to tackle the Marvel film “now” that this takes Captain Marvel out of the equation since the release is for July 2018, but then suggests Carol Danvers may appear in another Marvel film which will set up the main movie.

Sadly, Chastain confirmed on Twitter that the speculation was just that and her interview with MTV was misconstrued.

Fan reaction to the informal announcement was decidedly mixed.

Who’s your pick for Captain Marvel?
