Neil Patrick Harris And David Burtka Heading To ‘American Horror Story’

It’s official! Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are coming to American Horror Story: Freak Show. Funny enough, this isn’t the first time Neil and David’s names have been in the same sentence as the Ryan Murphy horror show.

The Inquisitr reported that the two were once considered to play a bickering couple in the first season before the show blew up and gained critical acclaim. Now, it looks like with the story running viral, and a previous offer on the table back in the summer, it reopened discussions between Ryan Murphy and the happily married couple.

According to TVLine, Harris and Burtka will appear on the last two episodes of the Freak Show season. The storyline involving Neil and David will entail “a sexy storyline with Jessica Lange’s batty chanteuse.”

As stated, rumblings of a guest appearance started back in the summer when Ryan Murphy invited Neil on the show back in July via Twitter.

“@ActuallyNPH of course you can be on Freak Show! I have a role I think you’d love.”

Now that it’s official Harris spoke about the upcoming Freak Show appearance, “He had very specific ideas for what he wanted to do, and I had very specific ideas, so we’re working on melding those.”

The first time around, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka turned down the opportunity to star in the first season. Taking their place was Zachary Quinto and Teddy Sears.

The How I Met Your Mother star explained, “We had just played ourselves as a couple not getting along, and I thought, ‘It just seems weird to do that twice, as individual actors to play a couple that hate each other twice. So I said ‘no,’ that we shouldn’t do it.”

He continued, “The idea was that we would be a gay couple, that, as it turns out, were murdered in this house and then our ghosts are around for the thing. It seemed cool. Loved Ryan [Murphy], loved the idea of a horror anthology show.”

In addition to Neil’s role in American Horror Story, he was also just tapped to host the 2015 Academy Awards. If that’s not enough the triple threat is getting his own variety show to boot.

So far fans of the show are pumped about this news. Here’s just a taste of some reactions.
