Walmart Shows Off ‘Fat Girl Costumes’ For Halloween
While everyone is discussing the potentially offensive Halloween costumes, Walmart has dedicated a whole section that needs to be talked about. The major retail store has decided to label their plus size section of Halloween costumes, “Fat Girl Costumes.”
This isn’t hyperbole. Unfortunately Walmart actually thought labeling a whole section “fat girl costumes” was a-okay. According to Jezebel, for almost a full week Walmart’s online store marketed their plus size costumes with the offensive moniker. After people complained, Walmart took it upon themselves to change the section to “Women’s Plus Size Halloween Costumes.” That said, it took six days after the first initial complaint for the headquarters to do anything to change the highly offensive name.
.@Walmart Not sure labeling these as “Fat Girl Costumes” is the best approach. #rude http://t.co/UbDq6BpArv pic.twitter.com/SE5BjOUPFs

Some of the costumes featured are the Avengers’ Black Widow, Disney’s Maleficent, Raggedy Ann, Nerdy Girl, Classic Witch, and Goddess of Love — just to name a few. Even though Walmart attempted to right their wrongs, they are still being rightfully shamed on Twitter.
leave it to @Walmart to further isolate people by having a “fat girl costumes” section. Bravo guys. pic.twitter.com/Th8pnA8S4e

Walmart had a “Fat Girl Costumes” section on their website, which means they also have an “Incompetent Manager” section on their payroll.

Walmart has since offered up an apology for anyone (note: everyone) who was offended by their horrible labeling faux pas. When News 19 WLTX reached out to Walmart’s media relations team, a member said this in response to the Fat Girl Costumes name.
“This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize. We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again.”
This has been a very strange year for Halloween costumes. As the Inquisitr reported earlier, some random Instagram user decided to show off his mother and father after they thought it would be totally hip to dress up as Ray Rice and and his wife Janay — in black face to boot. Others also thought it would be cool to follow in suit. As for Walmart, even though they have unofficially apologized, they still have up racially charged costumes for consumers.
