Jim Carrey: These 6 SNL Sketches Show Why He’s One Of The Best Hosts

Jim Carrey will be hosting Saturday Night Live tonight with musical guest Iggy Azalea.

Since the official announcement was made weeks ago that Jim Carrey would be hosting, fans and critics alike have been eagerly anticipating his return to the show.

Due to his busy movie schedule and other engagements, the 52-year old actor has not been able to host Saturday Night Live over the years as much as many SNL fans might like. He has actually only hosted the show twice – once in May 1996 and again in January 2011, according to the Huffington Post.

However, many of the sketches that he was a part of on those episodes are still memorable and absolutely hilarious.

To get you in the mood for watching Jim Carrey return to the SNL stage for the third time, here are six of his best sketches from his first two shows that will more than likely keep you laughing.

JACUZZI LIFEGUARD

Will Ferrell just wanted to enjoy a relaxing day in a jacuzzi when he’s introduced to Jim Carrey’s overzealous (and a little crazy) lifeguard whose job was to watch over the small jacuzzi just like it was an Olympic-sized pool. Perhaps one of the funniest moments of this sketch is when Jim Carrey tries to save Will Ferrell from drowning after Will experiences a minor cramp.

THE JOE PESCI SHOW

Jim Breuer got a chance to show off his flawless Joe Pesci impersonation in this classic sketch. Joe Pesci is a talk show host that invites Jimmy Stewart (played by Jim Carrey) as a guest. The laughter really kicks in when Joe Pesci invites Jim Carrey (played by Mark McKinney) onstage – a decision that drives Jimmy Stewart crazy. When Jim Carrey (as Jimmy Stewart) starts to mock Jim Carrey, that is perhaps the funniest part of the entire sketch.

BLACK SWAN

Nasim Pedrad competes against Jim Carrey in this hilarious spoof of the Oscar-winning movie, Black Swan. You will start laughing when you see Jim Carrey dressed up as a ballerina. You will keep laughing when you see the buffalo wings (instead of swan wings) on his back. However, you will lose your mind with laughter when you see the “dance battle” that Bill Hader’s character initiates between Nasim and Jim.

A TASTE OF NEW YORK

Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig and Jim Carrey collaborate on this funny sketch as a group of homeless people that use a performance opportunity at the Marriott hotel to beg their audience members for a place to stay. Kristen Wiig comes very close to breaking character during her funny verse, which makes this sketch even more hysterical.

WORST OF SOUL TRAIN

In this TIME Life parody, Coughy Robinson (played by Bobby Moynihan) introduces a collection of the worst performances from Soul Train. Absolutely hilarious! Most of the SNL favorites from that season (Jason Sudeikis, Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Kenan Thompson) are featured in this sketch. However, it is Jim Carrey’s performance as singer Diversity that will leave you yearning to play it again and again.

THE MERRYVILLE BROTHERS

The Merryville Brothers skit is definitely one of Jim Carrey’s best SNL masterpieces. Most people feel very scared when they are confronted by animatronics that look just a little too real – especially when you are on a broken amusement park ride that leaves you directly in front of that creepy attraction. That is exactly what Jim Carrey, Taran Killam and Bill Hader were able to create in this memorable sketch – especially when you realize that the Merryville Brothers are much more than just programmed robots.
