Gretchen Rossi And Slade Smiley Open Up About Failed IVF Attempt

Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley want a baby, but unfortunately the former Real Housewives of Orange County star has yet to get pregnant. Earlier this year, Rossi announced plans to undergo in vitro fertilization. Months later, after a couple of attempts at conceiving a child, Rossi’s struggles continue.

“After two surgeries, 14 fertilized embryos, and one round of IVF, Rossi still hasn’t been able to get pregnant,” OK! Magazine reported on October 20. “The Real Housewife of Orange County star went under the knife for egg retrieval while Slade had a testicular sperm extraction. The doctors were able to fertilize more embryos, but none survived implantation.”

Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley began dating years ago after meeting through Smiley’s ex-fiance, Jo de la Rosa, a former star of The Real Housewives of Orange County. After his engagement to de la Rosa ended, Smiley went out on a date with another housewife, Lauri Waring, but ultimately fell in love with Rossi, and the pair have been together ever since.

During Season 8 of the Bravo reality show, Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley became engaged. In the months that followed, Rossi expressed her interest in welcoming a child. Smiley, however, preferred to tie the knot first. Their dispute eventually led them to seek counseling on VH1’s Couples Therapy and, after the appearance, it appeared Rossi got her way as the couple quickly began planning for a family.

“As we begin to age, we want to make sure that we’ve done everything possibly to ensure a healthy baby,” Smiley, 40, told OK! Magazine of his and Rossi’s decision for IVF.

“Actively pulling the trigger to make a baby is very powerful,” Rossi said. “You go through every step together. As I’m crying and putting in shots that are very painful, Slade is right there with me.”

In regard to her recent IVF failure, Gretchen Rossi told OK!, “I was devastated.” Smiley added, “You feel this huge sense of loss. It’s heartbreaking to watch your partner go through that.”

Although Rossi and Smiley would like to welcome a child as soon as possible, The Inquisitr recently reported the couple had set a wedding date of May 23, 2015. “We have a date. We have a location,” Rossi told Andy Cohen during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live earlier this month.

Last month, The Inquisitr revealed Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley would soon be returning to television. However, it has not yet been revealed where they will be seen.
