First ‘Mario Kart 8’ DLC Includes Link Master Cycle

Nintendo gave more details on the first Mario Kart 8 DLC on Twitter today including Link’s Master Cycle.

Nintendo has planned to release two DLC packs for Mario Kart 8, as the Inquisitr has previously reported on. Apart from adding Link to the roster along with his Master Cycle, the first pack will include cat-suit Peach and Mario with his tanooki-suit in addition to three other vehicles and eight tracks including the F-Zero styled Blue Falcon kart.

The second pack will include Animal Crossing‘s Villager; Isabelle, the anthropomorphic Mayor’s assistant from Animal Crossing: New Leaf; and the skeletal Dry Bowser as well as an additional four new vehicles and eight more tracks. The second DLC pack will be available in May 2015. The full post from Nintendo UK is below:

Each Add On Content pack will contain two new cups, each with four courses, which, in total, increases the number of available courses by 50 percent. The Add On Content packs include classics like Wario’s Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii, as well as new courses, some taking place in the worlds of The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. New vehicles will also arrive with each pack, including the Blue Falcon kart representing the F-Zero franchise in the first AOC pack.

Mario Kart 8 Pack 1 – Released: November 2014

Pack 1 includes:

  • 3 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link
  • 4 Vehicles
  • 8 Courses

The Mario Kart 8 DLC packs are listed at $7.99 individually. They will be available as a bundle for $11.99 with an added incentive. Gamers who purchase both DLC packs will be treated to additional content for Yoshi and Shy Guy in the form of eight new colors for each. Nintendo is also using a bit of instant gratification to convince you to pre-purchase both DLC packs as you will gain access to the new colors immediately.

The Link Master Cycle along with the other DLC for Mario Kart 8 currently includes only characters and items from Nintendo titles. Future Mario Kart games, and possibly DLC for Mario Kart 8, may include characters from other properties not developed by Nintendo. In an interview with Nintendo Life director of Mario Kart 8 Kosuke Yabuki was asked about a Smash Bros. approach for the roster by including other characters. He stated:

“We’re always considering ways to make the Mario Kart games more appealing, but I don’t think that just increasing the number of characters would make the game better. Of course, I’m not ruling out the possibility of such an approach in the future though.”
