Minecraft for the PS Vita was given a European release date for October 15, 2014 as the Inquisitrreported previously.

The release makes good on the promise of Xbox head Phil Spencer, who promised that even with Microsoft’s acquisition of Minecraft parent studio Mojang, development for platforms such as the Sony PlayStation Vita and Apple’s iOS platform would remain unaffected.

Microsoft purchased developer Mojang for $2.5 billion in September. The deal also brings an end to Minecraft’s creator Markus Persson’s, or “Notch”, tenure at the studio. He announced that he will be departing from the company he helped found in order to pursue his passion of developing smaller concepts.

Minecraft for the PS Vita releasing on October 15 will be the final console port of the game for the foreseeable future. As of June 25, 2014 more than 12 million copies of Minecraft have been sold on the Xbox 360 alone, with 54 million sold across all platforms.
