Matthew Prokop’s Girlfriend Sarah Hyland ‘Will Bounce Back,’ Claims Source

Matthew Prokop’s girlfriend, Sarah Hyland, will bounce back from their allegedly abusive relationship. According to a source, the Modern Family actress will soon be back to her usual self, following a drama-filled couple of weeks.

“She’s a strong girl. I have no doubt she will bounce back from this,” an insider told Us Weekly on September 25. “She’s been through a lot in her life, but she’s still an amazing and strong person.”

Although it will likely be several months “before she’s ready to date again,” Hyland isn’t worried about finding a new man. Instead, the source claimed she was “focusing on work.”

“She just wants to leave this situation behind her,” the source added. And who can blame her? In court documents filed last week and obtained by Us Weekly, Hyland alleged Matthew Prokop once “pinned [her] against a car,” called her names, and wrapped his hands around her neck.

“His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak,” she stated in the documents. “I was scared and in fear for my life.”

Also in the documents, Hyland alleged Prokop threw a lighter at her when she broke up with him. At the time of their split, which came after a reported five years of dating, Hyland’s Modern Family co-star Julie Bowen was present and had to step in when things got heated.

“It’s true that Matt freaked,” a second source told Us Weekly.

Sarah Hyland and Matthew Prokop began dating in 2009 after meeting at an audition for the Disney Channel’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year. The couple lived together from 2011 until their August 2014 split.

Hyland’s lawyer released a statement about Hyland’s legal action against Matthew Prokop on Tuesday.

“The documents filed speak for themselves,” attorney Lee A. Sherman told People Magazine. “Out of respect for the court, the process, and all parties, I have advised Ms. Hyland not to comment on the matter.”

After news of her restraining order against Matthew Prokop hit the web, Hyland returned to Twitter, where she shared several positive messages with fans about the new season of Modern Family.

Hyland has had a busy year. In addition to her work on Modern Family’s sixth season, which premiered last night, Hyland also starred in a guest role on Hot in Cleveland, and had roles in two movies, Vampire Academy and Date and Switch.

Matthew Prokop doesn’t appear to have any projects in the works.
