Once Upon a Time fans might get to see Robert Carlyle become yet another iconic Disney character.
Carlyle’s Mr. Gold is a somewhat confusing combo of multiple different fairy tale characters. He’s Rumplestiltskin, the crocodile from Peter Pan and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast all rolled up into one delightfully devious package. It’s probably already difficult for Robert Carlyle to keep up with all these split personalities, but Once Upon a Time showrunner Adam Horowitz might think that the talented star can juggle one more.
During an interview with ET Online, Horowitz recently teased a very tantalizing upcoming Rumple story arc on Once Upon a Time.
“In the premiere there is going to be a nod to something very iconic in the Disney lore that we have not talked about yet and we haven’t yet referred to on the show. I would say Rumple is going to come into possession of something very iconic to Disney, and launch a story in a world that the audience is not expecting.”
ET believes that Horowitz was referencing the rose from the Beauty and the Beast movie. However, there are hints that he might actually be talking about the pointy blue wizard’s hat that Mickey Mouse wears in “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” segment of the movie Fantasia.
There are few Disney moments that are more iconic than Mickey Mouse donning the sorcerer’s cap, and it has already made an appearance on Once Upon a Time. According to TV Line, the hat from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” can be seen in the background in the season 1 episode “Skin Deep.” The hat was in Rumple’s castle, so perhaps we’ll learn how he came in possession of it during a fairy flashback.
But is Mr. Gold Fantasia wizard Yen Sid (“Disney” spelled backwards) or did he steal the hat from Mickey’s sorcerer boss? Perhaps Mr. Gold was once the apprentice of the powerful Fantasia wizard. If Yen Sid is a separate person from Rumpel on Once Upon a Time, the show really needs to pursue longtime fan William Shatner for the part.
According to Variety, Henry is going to go into the “family business” by working at Mr. Gold’s shop and taking inventory. His new job will definitely give Once Upon a Time the opportunity to give “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” story its own unique spin — what would happen if Henry found the wizard’s hat and put it on his head? Would he bring broomsticks to life or would he get more creative with his new magical powers?
In other Once Upon a Time news, The Inquisitr previously reported that Sally Pressman might be playing Anna and Elsa’s mother during the Frozen story arc. There’s a possibility that she’ll be sisters with Elizabeth Mitchell’s Snow Queen and Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten).
Do you think that Adam Horowitz was talking about Mickey’s wizard hat when he referenced “something very iconic in the Disney lore?”
