Reese Witherspoon Shares Throwback Thursday Photo Of ‘Cruel Intentions’ Cast Members Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar

Reese Witherspoon was feeling nostalgic as she took to her Instagram feed to post a throwback Thursday photo featuring her fellow cast mates from the 1999 movie Cruel Intentions. The photo featured not only Reese, but also her then-boyfriend Ryan Phillippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Reese captioned the photo with “Ahh the 90’s,” which suggests that the Oscar winner was feeling a little nostalgic when she posted the snapshot. While fans of the movie may find it hard to picture anyone else playing the role of Annette Hargrove, Us Weekly stated that Roger Kumble, screenwriter and director of Cruel Intentions, ended up begging Reese to take the part.

“We got into disagreements over who was going to play Annette,” said Kumble. “The studio wanted Katie Holmes, who was just starting to do Dawson’s Creek. And I liked this actor Vinessa Shaw… And then, literally, I was hanging out with Ryan one night and I was like, ‘What about your girlfriend?'”

According to ABC News, Kumble and Phillippe then came up with what they believed to be a full proof plan to get Reese to agree to the role.

“So, basically, we took Reese out to dinner to get her drunk, and we ended up getting drunk,” he said. “And I literally got down on my knees and begged her: ‘Please, it’ll be 15 days, you’ll be great.’ And Reese was like, ‘I’ll do it. But we need to work on the character.’ I’m like, ‘Anything, anything, anything.’ She wanted to strengthen the character, and she was right. And she and I got together, and we gave Annette more bite so she wasn’t a doormat. And I’m very grateful to her for that.”

Reese wasn’t the only one feeling nostalgic as of late. According to a previous report by The Inquisitr, Ryan Phillippe took to his twitter account to share a sentimental moment in life as a way of celebrating his daughter Ava’s 15th birthday.

“15 yrs ago today, was my last [day] on, ‘The Way of the Gun.’ A helicopter waited off set to transport me from the ‘Mexican brothel’ in Utah to Cedars Sinai in Beverly Hills. With my stomach in knots, exhausted & dirty, covered in syrupy fake blood & shards of candy glass the heli[copter] found the pad and I was taken to an area to sterilize myself. I made it to my then wife’s bedside w/ two hours to spare before. My baby girl first entered the world. 15 years ago I learned what love truly is.”

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have two children together, Ava, 15, and son Deacon Reese Phillippe, 10.
