Tim McGraw: Portland, Maine Is Tough To Find, Mayor Offers To Help

Tim McGraw’s “Portland, Maine” song is brand new this week, but it already has people buzzing. The song is a break-up ballad and the lyrics lament that his love has left for Portland. The lyrics go on to tout that he doesn’t know where the city is and he doesn’t want to know.

According to Maine Today, the city is happy to be getting some attention from the song. In fact, they see it as a great opportunity to pump up the idea of tourism to the area. Tim McGraw’s “Portland, Maine” ballad may even spur a Facebook page asking people if they know where the city is, the president of the Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau notes.

A spokesperson for the city, Jessica Grondin, says that they think Tim’s heartbreaker made a great choice by heading to Portland. She adds that while they’re pretty sure McGraw knows right where the Maine city is, Mayor Michael Brennan would be quite happy to show the country singer around the next time he’s out there.

The singer’s new album, Sundown Heaven Town, was just released this week. Tim McGraw’s “Portland, Maine” was written by Donovan Woods and Abe Stoklasa and considering McGraw’s track record of hits, many anticipate this song will get some significant play and attention along the way.

As WCSH notes, Tim McGraw and Portland have crossed paths before. He played a show there back in 1998 and he went through the city to get to a Bangor show just last spring. He did an interview before that concert and he seemed open to shooting a music video for his “Portland, Maine” song in the city itself. It doesn’t seem that any formal plans have been made, but it sounds as if the city itself will be all for it.

When it comes to Sundown Heaven Town, McGraw says that to him the album is a landscape of music. He envisions vivid colors like a sunlit valley and he notes that music feels just like that to him. This is album 13 for the 47-year-old, a follow-up to his 2013 album Two Lanes of Freedom. Some fans and critics note that this album really focuses on what fans love most about McGraw and it showcases what he does best. Will Tim McGraw’s “Portland, Maine” become a big hit and provide a tourism boost to the city as a bonus? Fans can’t wait to find out.
