Stay Stoned, Eat A Medicated Pizza: Marijuana Infused Frozen Pizza Hits LA Dispensaries
A product that is being touted as “the world’s strongest medicated pizza” has hit dispensary shelves in the Los Angeles area. The frozen pizza is branded as Stoned Oven Gourmet Pizzas.
According to Time, the weed-laced pizza business, started by 24-year-old “ganja entrepreneur” Henry Mark, sells these six-inch personal pizzas. Each six-inch pizza contains 250 mg of ethanol-extracted THC and distributed to dispensaries across LA for $10 each. Mark told Time that he recommends only eating a quarter of the pizza at first. Then drink some water, wait for a half hour, and then assess the situation. It might be a good idea to have some marijuana-free frozen pizzas on hand too, so you can tend to your munchies without getting even higher.
LA Weekly reports that the THC found in the pizza is made in Mendocino by an extraction company called The Earth’s Harmony Essentials. Though the pizzas are sold to the dispensaries frozen, some are going the extra mile by cooking the pizzas for their customers. Some collectives in the city cook the pizza on the spot and serve it in a box, although city law prevents anyone from eating it on-site. However, many customers opt to purchase the pizza in its frozen state to cook at home at their convenience.
Mark told LA Weekly that he has worked in dispensaries since he was 17. This was his opportunity to create his own business from a product that everyone loves.
“Everyone loves pizza. You cannot taste one bit of marijuana in there. This pizza is really dangerous, because you can trick anyone!”
Mark has also discussed his ideas for making a line of pizzas made from CBD-heavy strains. These pizzas will help alleviate pain but will not give consumers the traditional “high.”
“We want to be able to get a deal with hospitals. We can [treat] cancer with pizzas!”
Instagram users have been singing the praises of the Stoned Oven Gourmet Pizzas, with some calling it “the best edibles I have ever had.” At only $10 a pizza, many are calling it quite the deal.
One of Mark’s many concerns when creating the pizza was not only taste, but consistency. Edible weed products are notorious for their inconsistency in providing a high. Some may purchase a product and get a high after only a few bites, turn around, and buy another of the exact some product and brand and get no high at all. Mark wanted to be sure his weed-laced pizzas offered a consistent high so that consumers would know exactly what they were getting each time.
From the looks of the Stoned Oven Gourmet Pizza Instagram feed, and Instagram users using the company’s hashtag #stonedoven, customers are not complaining about consistency. What do you think of this innovative edible?
