Miley Cyrus Makes Outrageous Wardrobe Choice [Photos]
Just when you think Miley Cyrus can’t shock people anymore, she does just that.
Attending an after-party hosted by Alexander Wang during New York Fashion Week, Miley decided to pair her black pants with – what else? Pasties. Shirts are, after all, so over-rated. And these weren’t just your run-of-the-mill pasties. No, these were special pasties. They were bedazzled pasties shaped like ice cream cones. And she accessorized with a pair of pill-covered glasses.
No shoes, no shirt…no problem, apparently, if you are Miley Cyrus.
According to New York Magazine, when it comes to after-parties during New York’s famed fashion weeks, Alexander Wang’s parties are the “it” parties to be at. Last year, his party involved transforming the South Street Seaport into a Harajuku-themed rave. This year, he went in a different direction, hosting the party in Bushwick warehouse. The party was D.J.’ed by Messkid, and Tyga performed. Among other guests were Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.
Once in the party, Miley acted just as outrageous as her attire. She twerked, she made out with Alexander Wang, she was Miley Cyrus to the highest degree.
New York Fashion Week is known for a certain amount of spectacle and shock, but it has never relied on pasties to achieve it before. It’s an event hosted by Mercedes-Benz twice a year, and includes the showcases of such designers as Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang, Carolina Herrera and Versace, just to name a few. It’s the world’s first organized fashion week, dating back to World War II when the members of the fashion industry were unable to travel to Paris for French fashion shows, and has really been the kick-off to America’s presence in the fashion world.
Outrageous fashion? Sure. But pasties just don’t seem to fit.
Yet, we have women who constantly push the envelope when it comes to fashion. Women like Madonna, with her conical bras or even bared breasts, and women like Cher, who wore pasties herself.
But as Nedhal Stelio for The Sydney Morning Herald points out, with Madonna, her angle was always so stylized and consistent that her fans knew it was “part of a bigger picture.” That it was about image for Madonna. And as for Cher, she didn’t wear pasties to a party and called it evening wear; she paired them with chains and headdresses and wigs, until the pasties sort of disappeared into the larger-than-life theatrics that make Cher.
With Miley, though, the pasties just seem like a sad and desperate move for attention. There’s no fashion statement or image-making there, just another plea of “”Look at me! I’m all grown-up, I promise!”
