Season 5 of Downton Abbey is about ready to debut in the U.K., with a January premiere date slated for the United States, as is the norm. Fans are anxious to know where things are headed in the new episodes, particularly when it comes to the much-cherished coupling of Mr. Bates and Anna. According to TVLine, Downton Abbey spoilers for season 5 indicate that there are happier times ahead for Anna and Bates. Given what the couple went through in season 4, that is very welcome news for fans. Joanna Froggatt, who plays Anna, says that there are still some turbulent times ahead as the couple will still have some ups and downs. However, at least as the new season begins they are in a more positive place than in recent times.
As Froggatt points out, though, Anna and Bates do have a lot that they need to work through as a couple so it won’t be all cheery times. The show definitely won’t brush Anna’s rape under the rug. Froggatt teases that there is happiness ahead, but there will also be some trials and tribulations.

There has been speculation that Tom Branson and teacher Sarah Bunting might be headed toward a romance, but now The Telegraph notes that the actress who plays Bunting is moving to the States.
