Although we already know that Zoe Saldana is expecting, now we can say that it’s really official. Saldana took the popular viral hit the Ice Bucket Challenge, to bring awareness to ALS but also to let everyone know that yes, she’s pregnant.
There’s a twist to this ice bucket video, as Zoe didn’t participate in the challenge but did appear in the video. While she was explaining her predicament, she said while rubbing her baby bump,”Obviously I can’t do it myself. So I nominate my husband to take on the challenge.”
Her husband Marco Perego stepped in for Saldana. Perego, in sweats and with his hair in a bun, took on the challenge like a champ. After the ice water was dumped over his head, he like many others, decided to dive into a pool.
Saldana was challenged by director James Gunn. In turn Saldana and husband Perego decided to nominate James Cameron, Aileen Getty, Ron Burkle, and Salma Hayek to take up the challenge.
As we reported back in July, Saldana is pregnant with twins. While she never confirmed the news, Zoe was always open about her need to have children. In an interview with Amanda de Cadenet she said of wanting children and the predicament it caused her past relationship with Keith Britton:
“At 22 you’re like, ‘I just wanna hold something!’ You want a little critter. I felt the urge to want to have a baby, and I wanted to, but I remember that respecting his decision — and making the decision to wait with him — was one of the most mature things. I chose to wait and I’m glad I did. I’m glad that I respected him.”
So far Zoe is one busy mommy-to-be. Saldana is set to film both Star Trek and Avatar for 2015.
“All I know is that the producers of Trek 3 called the producers of Avatar 2 to find out when Avatar will finish shooting.”
Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego were married in June of 2013 in London after dating a few short months.
So far Zoe has received very positive response to her ice bucket challenge video:
