Jewel Shows Off New Baby

Country and folk singer Jewel features with husband Ty Murray and new son Kase Townes in the latest edition of People.

The new family – Kase was only born on July 11th – are pictured in and around their 2,200-acre Texas ranch, generally looking loved up and in awe of Kase. Kase mostly looks like he’d rather be sleeping.

According to the mag, Jewel originally wanted a hypnobirth, but a check-up of the overdue mother showed her baby struggling with each Braxton Hicks contraction, and an emergency c-section was arranged. As Jewel says to People:

“I feel lucky to be pregnant in the modern age where they could actually tell he wasn’t well during those contractions. We felt thankful that we had good doctors and a good hospital nearby, and that everything was okay. I’m so lucky that we have a healthy baby boy. That’s all I cared about.”

The parents also reveal they don’t want a nanny, that they like monosyllabic names, and explain how Kase’s name is both a tribute to Ty’s best friend and Jewel’s favorite singer/song-writer, the late Townes Van Zandt.

Father Ty, a nine-time world champion pro rodeo cowboy and fifth generation rancher, is apparently looking forward to getting Kase involved with daily chores, but doesn’t want to force anything on his son.

“Jewel and I have to remember he is his own little person, and it’s all for him to figure out,” he coos. “Our job is to enjoy what his little journey is, not fret over it.”
