‘DWTS’ Dancer Derek Hough Snatches Acting Job
Looks like ballroom champion Derek Hough is making the switch from professional dancer to moonlighting as an actor. The Dancing with the Stars champion has just scored his first high profile acting gig.
According to TV Line, Derek Hough just got a multi-arc gig on ABC’s popular series Nashville. Although he’s dabbled in acting before, this will be his first major role now that he’s a star thanks to his status on Dancing with the Stars.
Hough’s role is that of a movie star. On the show he plays Noah West who is described as “beguiling and disarming.” West fits into the universe of Nashville because he nabs the role in a famous country singer’s biopic, which pulls him into the music scene in Nashville.
This will be Noah West’s first dip into the music scene. As for Derek Hough, his first credited acting role was on the ABC sitcom Better With You.
It’s not a huge shock to see Derek in films. Although he’s won several trophies on Dancing with the Stars, in recent years he’s expressed wanting to move on, or at least being very hesitant to stay on board. Hough has been dabbling a bit in music and even has a best-selling book out.
Honored to become a NYT Bestselling author and grateful to all the readers who say they’re feeling… http://t.co/i8rXwe9A9C

Looks like he’s pretty excited about his role, too. Hough took to Twitter to announce his Nashville debut.
Can’t wait! @NashvilleWrites: So excited for @derekhough from @DancingABC to be joining our fantastic cast! Get pumped, #Nashies!! #ABClove — Derek Hough (@derekhough) August 14, 2014
The show’s upcoming third season will include powerful guest stars like Laura Benanti, Alexa Vega, and Brette Taylor.
Derek isn’t the only Hough that has transitioned from dancing into acting. His sister Julianne Hough made the move back in 2010 as Georgia in the film Burlesque, and hasn’t looked back since. Julianne has had roles in the films Footloose, Rock of Ages, and took on her first romantic lead in the Nicholas Sparks film Safe Haven. Coming up next, Hough has the film Curve against Teddy Sears.
Perhaps Julianne gave her brother Derek some advice? Either way, fans seem to be digging this news.
@derekhough @NashvilleWrites @DancingABC you know it!!! #NASHIES sooo happy for you!!! hello Noah WEST
