Madonna’s Hydrangea Hate: Rep Makes No Apologies

At the star-studded Venice Film Festival, pop-star-turned-actress Madonna was presented with hydrangeas from an adoring fan, which she accepted gracefully.

Well, maybe not so gracefully. Despite three decades in show biz, it appears Madge still isn’t too wary of live mics picking up comments she may not have intended everyone to hear. The singer has always had a bit of a diva rep, and it doesn’t sound like Madonna has picked up any new manners in her old age.

In the clip below that has since gone viral, the big M accepts the flowers from the fan and thanks him repeatedly, before somewhat obviously affecting visible air of distaste. The Swept Away star then mumbles to someone off camera that she “absolutely loathes” hydrangeas, and states that “obviously [the adoring fan] doesn’t know that.” Ouch. Highlight of life, canceled, poor Madonna fan.

After the clip racked up over 1.5 million views on one YouTube posting alone, a rep for the Material Girl felt the need to address the negative press the mega-star has received for appearing- well, bitchy and ungrateful. However, the rep didn’t make a move to smooth over the situation, preferring to remind fans and gossip blog readers that Madonna was perfectly entitled to her hydrangea hate. The rep says:

“[Madonna is] entitled to like any flower she wants and she didn’t want to hurt the feelings of the hydrangeas of the world … No disrespect to the hydrangeas lovers of the world but she prefers different types of flowers.”

Got that, Madonna fans? Don’t bring hydrangeas. Do you think the star was cruel in the clip below?
