The Convenience of Conflict: Coco Martin and Matteo Guidicelli Use Drama to Plug Movie

Most stars will schedule a series of appearances on various talk shows before the opening of a new movie… and others will get into a fist fight. Either way, both actions tend to draw the public’s eye. Maja Salvador’s indie movieThelma will be released today, so is it just a coincidence that Coco Martin and Matteo Guidicelli, two movie stars in the Philippines, recently had a heated brawl over Salvador?

Martin, Guidicelli, and Salvador are stuck inside a lover’s squabble, which they seem to be playing out in front of the public. A few days ago Martin and Guidicelli got into a fist fight over Salvador. According to the Buzz, Salvador, who was in a relationship with Matteo, kissed Coco at an after party. Coco denies that the kiss ever happened, but not before an enraged Matteo took a few swings at his rival.

But the fist fight may have been more than a mere explosion of emotion. Salvador later used the incident to draw parallels to her new movie during an interview.

Salvador said:

“Oh Boy, I was in a relationship with Matteo. But after last night I don’t know who I’m with anymore. Right now I have to focus on Thelma.”

According to the Inquirer, the Philippine movie star said that both she, and her character in the movie, do not run away from their problems. But do her and her character use drama to sell movie tickets?

Of course, the whole incident could have just been a coincidence. Either way, Thelma is sure to sell a few more tickets because of the Coco Martin and Matteo Guidicelli fight.
