Hilary Duff released the video for her new song 'Chasing the Sun' last week to critical acclaim and elated fans that have waited seven years for new music from the former Disney star known as Lizzie McGuire.
On Friday, she posted a 'thank-you' on her YouTube channel, casually mentioning that the video for her new song has topped 10 million views since it was posted to VEVO on July 28 (It's now up to 11.5 million views). This isn't the first headline Duff has made this year. The Inquisitr previously reported that Duff and her hockey player husband, Mike Comrie, split this past January.
In Billboard's Pop Shop Podcast, Hilary opened up about her new music, upcoming album, and how it has been impacted by the separation with Comrie and about their son, Luca.
"I'm separated from my husband right now, which has been a very difficult thing to go through, but we have a lot of love for each other and we have this beautiful baby," she said. "There's a song about Luca and a song about my separation and my love for this person, that maybe we're not meant to be together, or maybe we are."
She says the album is positive, but for those longtime fans who wondered what happened seven years ago to put her career on hold, one song may provide some answers.
So why did Hilary Duff choose now for what has turned out to be a fantastic comeback?
In the podcast, she explains that she was just about to give birth and began writing a lot again. "I don't know if it's because I was all hormonal," she said. "I took it as a sign."
Still, she says, another year passed before she made the call to her manager and said that it was time.
She was right.
Ed Sheeran joins her for a track on her upcoming album. Their song, "Tattoo," is reflective of a previous relationship of hers, she says. Sheeran is enjoying his own success with the release of his latest album, X, featuring the hit songs "Sing" and "Don't," a song written about his failed relationship with British pop star, Ellie Goulding.
