‘Stella’s Dog Brakes’: Yellow Lab’s Stopping Technique Lights Up YouTube [Video]

“Stella’s Dog Brakes” is among the latest videos posted on YouTube with a dog doing something innocently adorable.

There are, of course, many funny YouTube dog videos, but Stella brings an intangible groove, or, presence, to the screen that exudes a refreshing charm while also exercising a practical, and original, all-Stella skill.

The clip of Stella, a yellow lab, laying down her rear quarters and sliding to a stop on a front lawn may seem like a complete waste of time, but judging by the number of viewers and comments, people either don’t mind, have some extra time to waste, or simply find Stella so cute, sweet, and hilarious that they have no choice but to watch.

Not to mention the age old saying: “If a YouTube video features dogs, women, or children, then it’s definitely worth watching.” Well, Stella obviously fits the bill.

Stella, the adorable yellow lab, takes a break from her antics.

Posted by Jody Hartman, the videographer gives us insight into Stella’s groovy maneuver. Given this peek behind the scenes, viewers are allowed more participation in Stella’s world and given some reason for Stella’s dragging to a stop technique. Dog video fans are also refreshingly reassured that Stella is perfectly healthy and not just some crazy canine:

“She wants to keep going. Her hind legs have other plans,” writes Hartman. “Stella is a perfectly healthy yellow lab, and she only does this to cool down on the grass after she’s been fetching and playing.”

Stella’s Dog Brakes” posted July 29 and has garnered 5,111,301 YouTube views as of Sunday morning. While there are those who apparently don’t appreciate Stella’s groovy move, as represented by the 3,040 “thumbs down” selections, the “thumbs up” for Stella was crushing the haters with 12,243.

Of course the comments on YouTube are often as entertaining as the videos themselves, “Stella’s Dog Brakes” inspiring many self-subscribed critics, both positive and negative. One is also inevitably confronted by the rude and inappropriate while perusing YouTube comments, but the positive still manage to come through, like this one:

“I wish my dog did that ? its soooo cuteee.”

It’s also noteworthy that none other than Time even reported on Stella and her zany move. Perhaps with all the horrible news and events taking place around the world, the innocence of a Stella just doing her thing lets people know that not all is horrible and hopeless.

Well, of course a video is worth a million words, so without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, here’s Stella in “Stella’s Dog Brakes.”
