Michael Johns Dead: 35-Year-Old Former ‘American Idol’ Contestant Dies From Blood Clot

Michael Johns from American Idol fame has died. According to TMZ, the 35-year-old died on Friday from a blood clot in his ankle. Johns competed on Season 7 of American Idol and placed eighth. David Cook won that season. After departing from the show, Johns went on tour with the Top 10, which is customary. He later released his own music album Hold Back My Heart in 2009 and followed that up with an EP.

While Johns did not have a mainstream music career, he had a lot of fans and supporters. Many have left their condolences on Twitter, most in utter disbelief that he is gone.

According to Us Weekly, Johns recently tweeted about recording new music. Fans were excited to hear that the Australian native was back in the studio. It is unknown if he had planned on releasing another album or if he would have gone on tour. Sadly, those plans have been halted. If Johns recorded any songs before his untimely death, it’s possible that they could be released.

Johns’ death was extremely sudden, and there has not been any kind of official statement from his family. His rep reportedly confirmed the devastating news on Twitter on Friday.

“It is with a heavy heart and inconsolable sadness that we confirm the passing of our friend Michael Johns. No other details will b avail at this time. Please respect the privacy of Mike’s family and friends as we know u will.Members and admin of @mjohnsonline pass on their prayers (sic).”

Michael Johns was not the first American Idol contestant to pass away. As previously reported by The Inquisitr Alexis Cohen was found dead back in 2009. While Cohen never made it to the final rounds of the show, many knew her from her audition (she was referred to as “Glitter Girl”).

Michael Johns is survived by his wife of seven years, Stacey Vuduris. The couple did not have any children together.
