Kim Kardashian Has Made $85 Million From Her Video Game
Kim Kardashian is about to become the highest-paid video game voice actor of all time.
The reality television star lends the voice to her own character in the game Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, which has been a huge hit on mobile. The game allows players to coach Kim through the trials of being a celebrity, including ignoring mean-spirited tweets and making fashion choices.
Since being launched at the end of June, the game has risen to No. 2 on Apple’s free games chart. But even though it’s free for players, the game has reportedly generated $200 million in revenue so far with little overhead.
That is great news for Kim Kardashian, who TMZ claims has a deal that entitles her to 45 percent of the game’s net profits. That means that so far she has made $85 million.
If true, that would make video games the most successful endeavor ever for Kim.
Forbes notes:
“Kardashian made $28M last year through all her various endeavors. This would be close to triple that for narrating a video game. Forget Troy Baker and Nolan North, Kim Kardashian is the highest paid video game voice actress by a mile, if these figures hold. Though it is said she had a direct hand in much of the game’s design as well. Picking out clothing items, not coding, if I had to guess.”
Executives for Glu Mobile, the company that developed the game, have also spoken highly of Kim’s video game appeal.
“It might be our biggest game of the year,” Chief Executive Officer Niccolo de Masi said in an interview. “We’re not surprised. Kim is a one-of-a-kind talent with an incredibly precise fit to the game engine that we tailored but already had in the company.”
Kim has interacted with fans regarding the game, taking in suggestions and giving feedback to developers for updates.
“I love that fans are constantly telling me on social media their favorite parts of the game and even offering suggestions,” Kim noted. “We’re working really hard to integrate fan feedback and we’ve already added one of my favorite vacation spots to the game! There’s so much more to come, including plenty of cute new looks and exotic locations.”
Video game experts think that the success could lead to a number of other celebrity-themed games, and the success of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood will continue to make Kim rich.
