Anna Paquin: Purple Dye Job To Shed ‘True Blood’ Character

Anna Paquin wasted little time in moving on after the wrap of True Blood‘s seventh and final season. Required to be platinum blonde for her role as Sookie, Paquin went for a dramatic new look. Once she had freedom to choose from a hairdresser’s complete color palate, she went for a stark purple with blue streaks and posted the results on Twitter:

Paquin has been in the public eye for most of her life. Audiences came to know her first in 1993, when her supporting role in The Piano won her an Academy Award. At age 11, she was the second-youngest ever winner of the coveted prize, behind only Tatum O’Neal who won at age 10 for Paper Moon in 1973. In 1996, Anna told People she had only ever seen a “censored” version of the film, as people would always shield her eyes.

She also told the celebrity magazine that Sookie Stackhouse was effecting her personality, making her more “perky and bubbly,” “thanks to a lot of blonde and a lot of spray tanning.” That blonde is of course now history, and Paquin can go on to focus on being a mermaid.

Paquin apparently recruited only the best for her new style. She tagged @auracolorist in her post, who also placed the photo on her Tumblr page. The beauty editor of Allure last month called Aura Friedman one of her favorite colorists. Friedman works out of a salon in New York City.

Whether a mermaid or a vampire, Paquin still looks striking – as she can clearly pull off either color. Her husband, fellow True Blood alum Stephen Moyer, tweeted back his approval of his wife’s new locks:

The look got quite a bit of attention on Twitter, and Paquin responded to a fan who inquired about her choice of shade:

Moyer and Paquin had fraternal twins – a boy and a girl – in September 2012 but kept their names private for several months. In an unusual move for such noted celebrities, it was not until the following Spring that the public learned they were called Poppy and Charlie.

As previously noted by The Inquisitr, Anna Paquin strives to do more behind-the-scenes work, which may be next for the star.
