Harrison Ford Celebrates 72nd Birthday, Spotted In Whole Foods

People magazine titled its birthday tribute to Harrison Ford: ‘Still Sexy at 72.’ Today the Star Wars actor is celebrating his 72nd birthday, and indeed looks none the worse for wear.

Ford, who was born in Chicago in 1942, spent time at Ripon College in Wisconsin studying English and Philosophy. He signed up for a drama class, hoping for an easy credit. Ford eventually made his way to Hollywood in the mid-1960s, future wife Mary Marquardt in tow.

His film debut came in 1966, in the Universal film Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round. Despite parts in classic films such as American Graffiti and Apocalypse Now, Ford was still supplementing his income with carpentry work until his breakthrough role in Star Wars in 1977.

Ford is reprising his role as Han Solo in episode 7 of the series, which is being spearheaded by J.J. Abrams. Ford’s co-stars Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are also returning as Princess Leia — remembered for her side buns in the first film — and Luke Skywalker, the hero of the original franchise.

It was Ford’s recent injury on the set of the latest Star Wars film that has fans talking. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Ford has had to take time off from filming Star Wars after he suffered a leg injury on set. The actor spent time in hospital and had surgery, and was spotted in public with a leg crutch.

The hype over the ultra-secret Star Wars 7 filming and Ford’s unexpected mishap has led to great speculation as to how long Ford will be out of commission – and how serious his injury really is. As a result, media have been quick to report on Ford sightings. The Independent reported last Thursday that Ford was eating a sandwich in Whole Foods.

On his birthday, which Ford incidentally shares with fellow actor Patrick Stewart and comedian Cheech Marin — who are 74 and 68 respectively — fans were tweeting out congratulations. Many were rife with Star Wars references:

Harrison Ford is presumably celebrating his birthday today with his current wife Calista Flockhart. In addition to Flockhart and Marquardt, Ford was also married to screenwriter Melissa Mathison. Ford has five children.
