Potato Salad Kickstarter Surpasses $11,000

There have been Kickstarter campaigns for all manner of bizarre ideas, but sometimes a successful concept is one to which we can all relate on a molecular level — like this dude Zack and his admittedly brilliant Kickstarter to make potato salad.

No, it isn’t potato salad that interacts with your iPhone to prepare itself while you’re at work. It’s not a potato salad recipe that also fights for social justice.

Yes, Zack Danger Brown has just raised $11,000 to make a potato salad, because at the end of the day, we’re all just human beings, and human beings fundamentally understand how freaking serious and important potato salad is to our enjoyment of life.

Think about it… any warm-weather celebration, potato salad is there. Hot dogs are good, but what are they really just naked on a plate with no potato salad?

Sure, coleslaw is good… but it’s no potato salad. What’s more, basically every form of potato salad is amazing. The classic American kind that often has hard-boiled eggs and onions and celery and enough mayo to cause instant arterial sclerosis? Brilliant.

The variation with red-skinned potatoes that you pass off as a sorta bobo-ish haute culinary choice when you were really just too lazy to peel ten pounds of potatoes? Also brilliant. With bacon? Fantastic. No bacon? Also better by miles than a lack of potato salad.

Brown’s potato salad Kickstarter was as humble as the dish itself, and as clever. He just wanted to raise ten bucks, to make a potato salad. He began with a plea, simple and straightforward:

“I’m making potato salad… Basically I’m just making potato salad. I haven’t decided what kind yet.”

Of course, as a young potato salad-preneur, Zack was also mindful about risk assessment and honest with potential backers. This was no vaporware promise, and Brown bravely stated upfront what challenges he forecasted in the making of the dish:

“It might not be that good. It’s my first potato salad.”

But soon, people believed in Zack’s potato salad… so much so that he was able to add “stretch goals,” which is a thing that happens when a Kickstarter exceeds initial expectations:

$35 – I will make 4x as much Potato Salad. I know $40 isn’t 4x $10, but you guys have earned it.

$75 – Pizza Party!

$100 – I will try two different Potato Salad recipes.

As of now, more than 1,563 people have donated more than $11,167 to the potato salad Kickstarter… and if you believe in American ingenuity and potato freaking salad, you can donate here.
