Jennifer Lopez Wants Selena Gomez To Play Her In A Movie? Yeah, Not So Fast
Jennifer Lopez got her start playing the original Latin pop princess Selena in a movie of the late star’s life, and if you listen to internet reports, she desperately wants another Selena to play her in a movie.
Not so fast.
This little story has crept up in the same way a lot of news hungry media outlets treat their celebrity goings-on these days — from an off-hand comment made during an interview — and it has virtually no chance of ever happening.
To unravel this “scoop,” let’s go back to the starting point.
Jennifer Lopez was recently speaking with Sirius XM radio and was simply asked who she would pick to play her in a biopic of her life. “After Lopez couldn’t come up with a response (after all, she was put on the spot!),” E! Online reports, “she asked the host for any ideas, at which point someone suggested Selena Gomez.”
“She’s a cutie,” Lopez replied. “Yeah, maybe, I don’t know.”
Wow, media, sounds like JLo really wants to see this thing happen. It’s probably already got the green light and everything.
Well, maybe it does, to hear the Just Jared blog regurgitate it. The actual “reporting” here:
“‘I would want Selena Gomez to play me in a movie,’ Jennifer Lopez recently said in an interview (via NY Daily News). ‘She is a cutie.'”
Of course, the NY Daily News report said the same thing, but credited Newsday, which, if you follow that link, staged the comments in the same way.
Obviously, going back to the E! Online report which used the actual interview, we find out that this really isn’t that big of a deal at all.
JLo couldn’t even think of anyone until it was suggested to her, and then she was like, “Yeah, whatever.”
So to recap: Someone else suggested Selena Gomez as JLo in a movie based on JLo’s life, to which Lopez basically said Gomez was cute and, “Yeah, maybe, I don’t know.”
Ugh. Sometimes it’s really hard being in this industry.
One thing we will say about the two talents: They’ve had their fair share of successes musically as well as on the big screen. (Well, JLo more than Gomez, but Selena is just getting started.)
JLo will provide a voice in next year’s animated film Home, and two of her most recent films are in post-production and also expected to be released next year. They are The Boy Next Door and Lila & Eve.
Selena Gomez scored big with Spring Breakers in 2012 and has two films this year — Rudderless (released earlier this year) and Behaving Badly (out now).
