Angry Mother Stabs School Teacher To Death In Front Of Students

Yet another female school teacher has been stabbed to death in front of her students. The victim on this occasion was a 34-year-old senior teacher at the Edouard Herriot school in the Lapanouse area of Albi in south west France. Her attacker was the 47-year-old mother of one of her students.

Local prosecutor Claude Derens told Agence France Press that the identities of both perpetrator and the victim were not being released at the present time. The unexplained murder occurred on the same day that the results of the year-end exams — known as the Baccalaureate in France — were to be released.

This fact gave rise to obvious speculation that the killing was by a parent angry for some reason with the results

According to another report in the Daily Mail, the mother attempted to escape, but was caught after about 20 minutes close to the school grounds.

The woman actually has a police record for neglecting a child under 15 and not reporting a runaway child, according to a report on French radio. And yet another report on the BFMTV television station stated that she screamed “I’m not a thief” when she was arrested by police.

Claude Derens told AFP:

“This morning a mother came in with a knife and stabbed a senior teacher aged 34 in front of the children, for a reason that an investigation will determine. When I arrived on the scene, they were still trying to revive her. She was in cardiac arrest,’ said the prosecutor, who said the victim died of her wounds soon afterwards.”

Derens confirmed that the victim’s time of death was 11 am.

The attacker is now in custody where she will almost certainly remain until her trial sometime next year. In France the penalty for such a murder is up to 30 years in prison.

France’s Education Minister Benoit Hamon said the whole of France was “deeply shocked” and added that it highlighted the need to improve security in schools. President Francois Hollande condemned the killing, describing it as a “horrific tragedy.”

Another statement issued by a government spokesman said, “All state services will be mobilized to look after the students and the personnel who witnessed this horrific tragedy.”

Only a few months ago in England, Ann Maguire, a 61-year-old teacher of Spanish at a Catholic college in Leeds, was stabbed to death in front of her students by a 15-year-old boy. Never before has a British teacher been killed in front of a class full of students.

Unfortunately, the killing of schoolteachers is not as rare as it once was. What is horrifying is when it is carried out so blatantly in the class, and in full view of the students.
