Ice-T’s Grandson Arrested For Murdering Roommate: Elyjah Marrow, 19, Charged With Manslaughter

Ice-T’s grandson was arrested for allegedly murdering his roommate Tuesday afternoon in Marietta, Georgia. Elyjah Marrow, 19, was apparently “tinkering” with a handgun when he accidentally killed Daryus Johnson — also 19.

Speaking with TMZ about the murder, police say Marrow was “fiddling” around with the gun in his apartment when the gun went off. Johnson was fatally shot.

Ice-T’s grandson is being charged with “involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and reckless conduct,” TMZ reports. In addition to those charges, Marrow is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a stolen firearm.

Officer David Baldwin with the Marietta Police tells The Marietta Daily Journal:

“Marrow was not using proper firearms safety when handling the gun. That reckless handling of the firearm is what led to Johnson being accidentally shot and eventually killed.”

Johnson was rushed to Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.

Marrow is in custody at Cobb County Jail without bond.

Elyjah Marrow has appeared on his grandfather’s show, Ice Loves Coco.

No comment from Ice-T or his rep has been released. He hasn’t hinted or mentioned anything regarding the criminal charges against his grandson on Twitter. It’s not known at this time how the whole family is coping with the fallout from this tragedy.

Elyjah’s mother is Tesha Marrow, who is Ice-T’s first child. Ice-T’s real name is Tracy Marrow.

It’s a sad reality that so many people are accidentally injured or killed by gunshot wounds. Children are more likely to be victims in these situations when they encounter a loaded gun. Due to so much gun violence in the nation today, gun control is a dividing issue politically and personally. It’s not likely to go away, and will only heighten in controversy.

Ice-T defends the right to bear arms. He spoke about this after the Aurora, Colorado massacre that happened almost two years ago in a movie theater.

Ice-T told Channel 4 London News (via Los Angeles Times) this after the mass murder:

“I’ll give up my gun when everybody else does… if there were guns here, would you want to be the only one without one?”

Adding:

“… It’s legal in the United States. The right to bear arms is because that’s the last form of defense against tyranny, not to hunt. It’s to protect yourself from the police.”
